Every Field Type in a WhatsApp Form, Explained — and When to Use Each

Text, Choice, Dropdown, Rating, Date, File Upload — knowing which field fits which question makes forms faster to fill and easier to read.

The Right Field Makes the Form Feel Effortless

A form full of text boxes feels like homework. A form that uses taps for easy answers and typing only where needed feels quick. Here is every field type in the WhatsLead builder and where it shines.

Fields That Collect Answers

Text

A single line — names, cities, short answers. Use it when the answer is unpredictable and short.

Paragraph

A longer, multi-line answer. Great for "Tell us about your requirement" or "Any special instructions?". Use it sparingly — long answers feel like effort.

Phone and Email

Purpose-built for contact details. The phone field is the one almost every form needs, since it identifies the customer in your WhatsApp.

Number

For quantities, ages, budgets, and counts — anywhere you want digits and not words.

Choice

Pick one option from a short list. Ideal for "Preferred time" or "Delivery or pickup?" — fast to tap, easy for you to scan.

Checkbox

Pick several options, or give a single required agreement such as "I agree to be contacted on WhatsApp".

Dropdown

Pick one from a longer list — cities, product categories, services. Use it when there are more than five or six options so the screen doesn't fill up.

Yes / No

A simple toggle for questions like "Have you visited us before?".

Rating

A star rating — perfect for feedback and review forms.

Date and Time

For bookings, deliveries, and appointments. A date picker avoids the "12/10 — is that October or December?" confusion.

Fields That Make the Form Look Better

Title

A heading to break a long form into sections.

Image and Video

Add your product photo, a short intro clip, or a how-to video right inside the form.

Advanced Fields (Pro)

File Upload

Let customers attach a reference photo, document, or resume. Uploaded files are stored for you, with 10 GB of storage included.

Page

Split a long form into pages and choose where each page leads next — or jump straight to submit.

The Golden Rule

Use the lightest field that gets the answer. Every tap you save is a completed form you don't lose.
