How to Collect Documents, IDs, and Resumes Through a WhatsApp Form

Need customers to attach a photo, PDF, or resume before they message you? WhatsLead's File Upload field lets them attach it right inside the form.

When a Text Answer Isn't Enough

Some questions can't be answered with words. You need to actually see the document, photo, or file — a resume, an ID proof, a property paper, a design reference. WhatsLead's File Upload field lets respondents attach a file directly inside your form, no separate email or WhatsApp attachment required.

How to Add a File Upload Field

  • Open your form builder → Advanced tab
  • Drag in the File Upload field
  • Label it clearly — e.g. "Upload your resume (PDF)" or "Upload a photo of the issue"
  • Mark it required or optional depending on your workflow
  • Publish
  • Respondents can upload files up to 10MB each. Once uploaded, the file link appears in your WhatsApp message alongside their other answers, and in your dashboard's response history.

Where File Uploads Are Genuinely Useful

    Business TypeWhat They Collect
Recruiters / hiring managersResumes and portfolios
CAs, insurance agents, lendersID proof, PAN, income documents
Real estate agentsProperty papers or photos
Interior designers, architectsReference images, floor plans
Repair services (electronics, appliances)Photo of the issue before a technician visits
Design/branding freelancersExisting logo files or brand guidelines

    A Few Practical Tips

  • Only make it required when you truly need it upfront — an optional upload keeps the form fast for people who'd rather just talk first
  • Be specific in the label — "Upload ID proof (PAN or Aadhaar)" converts better than a vague "Upload document"
  • Pair it with a text field — for example, "Upload your resume" alongside "Total years of experience," so you get both the file and a quick-scan answer
  • File uploads and storage are part of the WhatsLead Pro plan.
